The National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) has announced that Rachael Ward ’14, a mathematics major at Rhodes, has been selected for its highly competitive Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program currently underway at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK).

This summer, alumni Hayley Farmer ’13 and Will Lang ’12 are teaching college prep and enrichment classes for the Midtown North community.

Dr. Jonathan Fitz Gerald, assistant professor of biology at Rhodes, has been awarded a $400,000 three-year National Science Foundation (NSF) grant (effective June 15, 2013) for his research using the flowering plant Arabidopsis thaliana as a model to understand the different roles played by maternal and paternal genes.

Rhodes English major Samantha Smith ’14 is spending the summer as an intern with the education division of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C.

Rhodes’ Head Field Hockey Coach Jane Wells and Head Women’s Soccer Coach Joe Vari partnered with a group from Lynchburg College and the Sports Outreach Institute.
