Dale Hutcherson ’15 Curates Mud Island Mississippi River Museum Exhibit

Rhodes history major Dale Hutcherson ’15 has curated an exhibit at the Mud Island Mississippi River Museum featuring large paintings of various Memphis riverfront and Downtown scenes that once graced the walls of The Butcher Shop Restaurant in Downtown Memphis. The restaurant closed in 2012, and Memphian Jimmy Ogle purchased 21 paintings, 15 of which are on display.

During the spring 2014 semester, Hutcherson served as intern at the museum and for the exhibit, he completed research on the paintings, cleaned and titled them, wrote the text panels, and determined the positioning and lighting for the paintings.

The exhibit, titled “Proud Memphis: Founded on the River, Built on Cotton,” runs June through August.
