Dr. Laura Loth, associate professor of French and Francophone Studies, is once again bringing a French film festival to Rhodes. An annual event for several years, the program has returned to campus under the name Albertine Cinémathèque French Film Festival and will run from Sept. 17-Oct. 9, 2024. The festival is supported by a grant from Albertine Cinémathèque, which aims to bring contemporary French cinema to American college and university campuses.
“This year’s festival will explore dynamic and evolving representations of the human body through a curated selection of groundbreaking films from both emerging and established French and Francophone filmmakers,” said Loth.
It features one classic film and a series of five contemporary award-winning films that span the globe, including France, Tunisia, Greece, and Senegal. All are subtitled in English and preceded by a brief introduction, and some will be followed by informal discussions led by Rhodes faculty.
The films, free and open to the public, will be shown at 7 p.m. in Blount Auditorium. All attendees from the public are asked to register. The schedule of films is as follows, and details about the films can be found on the festival’s webpage:
