“One Day,” a short film by Rhodes sophomore Lara Johnson will be shown at the 16th Annual Indie Memphis Film Festival at 10:15 a.m. on Nov. 2 at Playhouse on the Square. It features the poem “One Today,” which Richard Blanco wrote and read at President Obama’s second inauguration. View ticket information.

Also at Indie Memphis, Hollywood actor Harry Lennix of the NBC series “Blacklist” and scholar/screenwriter Ayanna Thompson will discuss their adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV,” at 9 p.m. on Nov. 2 at Playhouse on the Square. “H4” is the title of the film that translates Shakespeare′s works to contemporary Los Angeles in order to explore political struggles in the African American community. Lennix and Thompson first met at the 2008 Rhodes College symposium “Shakespeare in Color.” Earlier on Nov. 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Rhodes’ Rhea Lounge, they will engage in an on-campus discussion (free and open to the public) about adapting Shakespeare’s work.
The "H4" screening is co-sponsored by Rhodes’ Pearce Shakespeare Endowment, African American Studies program, Film Studies program, and Black Student Association; the University of Memphis African and African American Studies program; and Hattiloo Theatre and Indie Memphis.
