Recent Rhodes graduates Morgan King and Olivia Hipp have been selected by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy for its Teaching Assistant Program in France.
The Teaching Assistant Program’s goal is to strengthen English-language instruction in the French educational system through the establishment of a native speaker presence. Assignments vary depending on school needs, but Teaching Assistants typically lead conversations, serve as a resource person in conversation groups, provide small group tutorials, and give talks related to American studies in English classes.
King, a religious studies major from Georgetown, TN, will teach English in Paris at a school close to the Eiffel Tower. He is a member of the National French Honor Society and was a Rhodes Student Associate in the Rhodes Language Learning Center. King also has studied abroad with the Rhodes European Studies program and has travelled in France, Scotland and Spain.
Hipp, an English major from Charleston, SC, will teach English in Bordeaux, France. A member of the French Honors Society, she was president of the French Club and a Rhodes Student Associate in the Alumni Office. In her junior year, she studied abroad in the south of France through the Rhodes’ Buckman Fellowship. For the past two summers, Hipp has participated in Rhodes’ British Studies at Oxford and will be returning this summer as a staff member.
