A section of University Street, between Jackson Avenue and North Parkway, has been named in honor of Rhodes College President William E. Troutt. Students, faculty/staff, alumni, and friends gathered Aug. 26 for the unveiling of “Dr. Bill Troutt Parkway,” which was approved by the Memphis City Council in April.
“Dr. Troutt is one of American Higher Education’s longest serving and most respected leaders. His love for students, the Rhodes community and Memphis runs deep,” says Dr. Russell Wigginton, vice president for external programs at Rhodes. His leadership has made Rhodes a much more ‘Memphis Minded’ institution, and inspired almost half of our students to want to call Memphis home after graduation. This recognition is fitting for his service to Rhodes, to Memphis, and to higher education.”
