At the 2016 American Political Science Association’s annual meeting in Philadelphia, three Rhodes political science alums—Michael Lamb ’04, Elizabeth Markovits ’97, and Carrie Archie Russell ’97—were honored for their outstanding work in undergraduate teaching. Receiving university-wide teaching awards at their home institutions, the three also were recognized at the association's reception honoring teaching. Lamb stated at the reception that “Professors Cullen, Wirls, Pohlmann, and Nelson would be so proud.”
Lamb is University Scholar in Residence and Fellow in the Office of Personal and Career Development at Wake Forest University and the McDonald-Templeton Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford. He holds a Ph.D. in politics from Princeton University, a B.A. in political science from Rhodes, and a second B.A. in philosophy and theology from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
Markovits is associate professor of politics at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts where she directs the Teaching & Learning Initiative and First-Year Seminar program, in addition to her work in the Department of Politics. She received a B.A. in political science from Rhodes and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Russell is director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Political Science and the director of Pre-Law Advising at Vanderbilt University. She received a B.A. in political science from Rhodes, a J.D. from the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.
