Rhodes Named Winner of Investment Research Competition

Rhodes has won the local competition of the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute Research Challenge and now advances to the Americas Regional where it will compete against universities from the United States, Canada, and Latin America. This year’s challenge was hosted by the Arkansas, Memphis and Mississippi CFA Societies made up of investment professionals.

The Rhodes team--Joel Brown-Christenson, Daniel Genter, Madeleine Esther, and Xinlun Ma--competed against Arkansas State University, Freed-Hardeman University, Harding University, Millsaps College, University of Mississippi, University of North Alabama, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

The students presented their analysis of Clarcor, Inc., resulting from months of research and interviews with company management, competitors, and clients. Jade Planchon serves as the Rhodes faculty sponsor, and Rhodes alumnus Richard Sewell ’10 also worked with the group as an industry consultant.

The Rhodes team will now travel to the Americas Regional in Denver, where they will match wits, analytical skills and presentation abilities against other student teams March 18-19. The winners of the three Regionals (Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific) will then advance to compete in April at the Global Final in Bangkok.
