Catherine Prabish, a sophomore physics major at Rhodes, won first place for her oral presentation at the Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (Arkansas INBRE) Conference held in November. Prabish, who presented “Ultrasonic Characterization of the Human Scalp Using Backscatter Parameters” works in the Physics Laboratory for Ultrasonic Studies led by Prof. Brent Hoffmeister at Rhodes.
Her research pertained to the ultrasonic properties of the scalp, with images revealing dermis/epidermis, subcutaneous layer, and connective tissue layers.
Senior physics major Jack Harper received honorable mention for his poster presentation titled “Detection of Micro-Algae Cells Using Automated Deep Learning Techniques.” He conducted research under the supervision of Prof. Yong Wang at the University of Arkansas.
The Arkansas INBRE Conference involves participation from colleges and universities in Arkansas and surrounding states in biological sciences, physics, chemistry, and biochemistry.
