Virginia Architect Firm Lands Design Award for Catherine Burrow Refectory Renovation

Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company, the lead architectural firm for several new and renovated buildings on campus over the past 15 years, has won a design award for the Catherine Burrow Refectory renovation and addition.

The Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects presented the 2014 Awards for Excellence in Awards in the following categories: architecture, contextual design, historic preservation, interior design, and residential design.

Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company, with offices in Norfolk and Blacksburg, VA, won in the architecture category. The jury considered aesthetics, adherence to the client program, proven and projected building performance, and concept development during its deliberations.

“This project rises to the challenge of expanding an existing building on a campus with a strong historic character,” the jury remarked.
