For Danielle Jones ’14, an internship is much more than just a job opportunity. It reflects her passion: dance. This year, Jones has been able to channel that passion through an internship with the New Ballet Ensemble and School. The internship is funded by the Ham and Katherine Smythe Fellowship in the Arts, and Jones is involved in many aspects of New Ballet including working weekly at Dunbar Elementary School in the Orange Mound community.

Two Rhodes teams competed in the international Math Competition in Modeling this semester with team one receiving Honorable Mention and team two judged Meritorious Winners.

With 214 team points, the Rhodes Men’s Track & Field team won the first ever Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship on April 27.

Drs. Thomas Bryant and Patrick Gray are recipients of Rhodes’ highest faculty honors for outstanding teaching and research.

Robert H. Buckman—who served as chairman of the board and CEO of Bulab Holdings, Inc., the holding company of Buckman Laboratories, from 1978 to 2000—will receive the Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at the 164th Commencement of Rhodes College on Saturday, May 11. President William E. Troutt will preside over the ceremony.

The Baccalaureate Service for the 164th Session of Rhodes College will be held May 10 in the multi-sports forum of the Bryan Campus Life Center on campus beginning at 3:30 p.m. Seating tickets are necessary for admission. The Baccalaureate program will be broadcast live in the McCallum Ballroom and in the Lynx Lair of the Bryan Campus Life Center. It also will stream live from the Rhodes home page.

Rhodes physics students have two entries in NASA′s 20th Great Moon Buggy Race.

At the annual Campus Life Awards ceremony on April 23 hosted by the Rhodes Student Government, members of the Rhodes community were recognized for their excellent level of commitment and passion in their respective areas of campus involvement. Congratulations to this year’s recipients!

J. Carey Thompson, vice president for enrollment and communications and dean of admission at Rhodes, received the 2013 Larry West Award, the highest distinction given by the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC). Thompson was recognized at SACAC’s annual conference held in Memphis April 20-23.

On April 28, Rhodes’ MasterSingers Chorale and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra performed a concert in memory of Tony Lee Garner ’65 and David Ramsey ’61.
