The Compassionate Campus Initiative Retreat: Cultivating Self and Community
In 2015, President William Troutt organized the Compassionate Campus Initiative (CCI), a small group of faculty and staff coming together in hopes of finding ways to make Rhodes College a kinder and more mindful community. In pursuit of this goal, the CCI is engaged in multiple projects, including helping to develop new curriculum designed to cultivate compassion and working to establish Bellingrath Chapel as a space dedicated to contemplation, prayer, and meditation.

Distinguished Awards for Scholarship and Service Presented at Rhodes Commencement
Annual awards were presented at the 167th Commencement Exercises of Rhodes College on May 14 on campus. Rhodes graduate Heting Hommy Zhu was awarded the Peyton Nalle Rhodes Phi Beta Kappa Prize, the college’s highest academic honor, and James Allen Boone, Jr. ’71, vice president for finance and business affairs, received the Rhodes College Distinguished Service Medal.
ODK Inducts New Members Demonstrating Scholarship, Leadership, and Service
Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), the national honor society which recognizes scholarship, leadership and service in extracurricular activities, has inducted new members into the college’s Phi Circle.
New members from the faculty and staff are Dr. Zachary Casey, assistant professor of educational studies; Brian Foshee, director of physical plant; and Timothy Lucas, associate director of physical plant.
Former Wellesley College President to Deliver Baccalaureate Address
Dr. Diana Chapman Walsh, President Emerita of Wellesley College, will deliver the Baccalaureate address and will receive the Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at Commencement.
