Four Rhodes employees— Fred Garrett, Liz Hvasta, Tim Lucas, and Nikki Moore—were recognized with the college’s 2018 Outstanding Staff Awards based on nominations submitted by faculty, staff, and students. The presentations were made May 17 at the annual Service Recognition Brunch.
Outstanding Administrative Services Staff Award
This year’s Outstanding Administrative Services Staff award winner is Fred Garrett, a sergeant in campus safety. Sgt. Garrett, pictured below, was unable to attend the presentation. However, nominators wrote: “Whether he’s giving a student a ride, unlocking their door, or talking to them about what’s happening on campus, he represents what’s best about Rhodes. No matter the request, you can always count on Fred to be helpful and professional. He is often the first person to answer a call and the last to leave, always with a smile on his face. Sgt. Garrett truly cares about Rhodes College.”
Outstanding Administrative Staff Award
Liz Hvasta, an administrative assistant II in student life, received the Outstanding Administrative Staff award. Nominators wrote: “Liz has provided exceptional comprehensive support to multiple student life offices and the registrar. She serves as customer service provider, front line support, and technical guru in a variety of areas ranging from academic support, community standards, accessibility services, new student programs, and more! She consistently serves our students with a caring heart and works tirelessly for administrators. Liz is committed to the college and its success.”
Outstanding Administrator Awards
Outstanding Administrator awards were presented to Tim Lucas and Nikki Moore.
Lucas is associate director of physical plant, and nominators wrote: “Tim is very organized and meticulous. He is involved in all campus events, from planning the events, to monitoring the events calendar and coordination of the setup requirements. Tim is easy to work with, very accommodating and he is not easily stressed by changes. He is also responsible for the annual President’s Climate Commitment reporting, recycling, the Zipcar program, and the bike program and bike shop. Tim works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the college operates effectively and efficiently.”
Nominators wrote about Moore, senior director of college events and leadership: “Nikki has produced numerous events in almost every space on campus, at the President’s house, and around Memphis! Her attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile are unequaled. Though she makes it look effortless, she spends countless hours working to ensure all of our events reflect Rhodes standards of excellence. She radiates positivity and energy which is contagious. It also makes her a joy to work with. She is always eager to help others and do whatever it takes. Nikki is the definition of the word service.”
