Annika Gage ’16 of Ann Arbor, MI, recently learned she is a 2016-2017 recipient of the William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India.

The Clinton Fellowship is an immersive, 10-month service program that matches young professionals with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social enterprises across India to work on projects in the fields of education, livelihoods, public health, and human rights. Candidates must demonstrate a passion and commitment to social and economic development in India. Gage is interested in women's rights and the relationship between migration and health.

In 2014, she studied Hindi in Jaipur, India, as a recipient of a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship. Prior to that, she spent two summers and a winter semester in Rishikesh, India,  volunteering at a children's home.

Gage graduated from Rhodes in May with a B.A. in urban studies. Her area of focus was community health, and she researched the trajectories of refugee health in Memphis.

As a Buckman Fellow for Study Abroad, she also researched postpartum mental health of displaced Syrian women in Jordan. “I have immense gratitude for the mentorship of the faculty at Rhodes College, especially that of Dr. Barron Boyd, who has provided unfaltering support every single step of the way,” says Gage.

With an interest in collaborative, holistic community health work, she hopes to pursue a master’s degree in public health after completing the fellowship.
