Bailey Santos, a senior educational studies major from Dallas, TX, presented “Bilingual Books to Promote Language and Biliteracy Learning” at the Literacy Research Association conference held Dec. 4-7 in Atlanta. She presented the research with faculty advisor Dr. Laura Beth Kelly.
The researchers shared findings from the first year of a study about reading and discussing bilingual books with fourth-grade students.
“My post-grad plans consist of becoming a bilingual teacher in dual language schools and hopefully continuing bilingual literacy research,” said Santos. “Doing literacy research at Rhodes has played a role in shaping me into the teacher I aspire to become. It has also motivated me to work hard toward creating supportive environments for bilingual students.”
