Former Rhodes president Dr. Marjorie Hass has published a new book, A Leadership Guide for Women in Higher Education, with John Hopkins University Press.
The guide offers advice for women looking to move into senior leadership roles at colleges and universities drawn from Hass’ sixteen years of leadership experience, work with national higher education organizations, and her mentorship work with dozens of women to address fundamental issues women face when they lead in higher education.
The leadership guide, which was released August 10, offers wisdom and practical lessons in professional identity, negotiating power and conflict, finding joy in your work, growing as a leader, crafting a vision, building skills, and winning the job of president or senior college leader.
President of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, Lynn Pasquerella, says of the book, "Marjorie Hass provides compelling insights into the nature of academic leadership. At a time when diverse voices in higher education are more critical than ever, she offers both practical advice and inspiration for women seeking advancement in the academy."
Hass was the 20th president of Rhodes College before taking on the role of president of the Council for Independent Colleges July 12, 2021. Before coming to Rhodes, she was formerly the president of Austin College and the former provost of Muhlenberg College, where she was also a professor of philosophy.
