National Neuroscience Honor Society Chapter Is Started at Rhodes and Is the First in Tennessee

Rhodes has a new honor society. It is Nu Rho Psi, the National Honor Society in Neuroscience, and the Rhodes chapter will be the first for Tennessee.

Says Dr. Kim Gerecke, who will serve as faculty advisor, “It’s an especially nice honor, as we had several students— Matthew Roberts, Grace Mosely, Kyle Jenkins and Shelley Choudhury—who were instrumental in initiating the application process, and did a lot of hard work on our application. The reviewers were especially complimentary of Rhodes, especially our strong commitment to student engagement in research and service.”

Nu Rho Psi encourages professional interest and excellence in scholarship in neuroscience, awards recognition to students who have achieved such excellence, promotes intellectual and social interaction between students, faculty, and professionals in the field, and encourages service to the community.

Neuroscience as an interdisciplinary program at Rhodes began the fall of 2006, and neuroscience faculty have students working in their labs. Also, a number of neuroscience majors have been paired with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital researchers as part of the Rhodes St. Jude Summer Plus program and with University of Tennessee neuroscience researchers as part of the Rhodes/UT Neuroscience Research Fellowships.
