Rhodes College launched a new Athletics Giving Challenge on Oct. 22, and the results are in—$71,232 in donations and 568 donors.

“The outpouring of support we’ve received in our inaugural Athletics Giving Challenge was overwhelming and proves how special the Rhodes community is when it comes to our student-athletes,” says Matt Dean, director of athletics.  “We can’t thank our alumni, parents, and friends enough for surpassing our initial goals.”

During the course of the Athletics Giving Challenge — a 24-hour campaign— Rhodes surpassed its initial goal of 210 donors. Gifts and ongoing donations help students pursue academic and athletic excellence.

“The one-day Athletics Challenge allowed us another avenue to share and highlight the success of Lynx athletics with our alumni, parents, and friends,” says Jim Duncan, senior director of athletic giving. “The response shows the passion, interest, and commitment to more than 500 varsity student-athletes, and we are grateful for their investment.”

Rhodes competes in 23 NCAA Division III sponsored sports as members of the Southern Athletic Association. This past academic year, Rhodes won the Commissioner’s Cup for the third time, earned 10 NCAA appearances, six conference championships, four conference tournament championships, six All-Americans, five Coach of the Year honors, one regional Coach of the Year, seven Players of the Year, and five Newcomers of the Year.
