Dr. Žak Ozmo, a visiting assistant professor of music at Rhodes College, has been named the first recipient of the Health & Wellness Award presented by the Soulsville Foundation. The award will be presented April 30 at Crosstown Theater in Memphis during the foundation’s Power of Music Honors event.

Established in 2025, the Power of Music Honors recognizes visionaries who use music to inspire change, uplift communities, and shape culture.

Ozmo is founder of the Ozmo Institute for Neuroaesthetics, an organization dedicated to researching and applying the effects of the arts on health, brain function, and behavior. He is an internationally recognized scholar and musician, leading initiatives that connect neuroscience, music, and community healing.

Said Soulsville Foundation CEO Pat Mitchell Worley, “Through his decades of groundbreaking work—and most recently, the creation of the Ozmo Institute for Neuroaesthetics—Žak Ozmo is helping us understand what artists have long known – music has the power to heal.”
