Phoebe Sharp, Matthew Huber, Emily Sanders Win Awards at Biomedical Research Conference

Two Rhodes students won awards and one won an honorable mention at the Arkansas IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) conference held Oct. 27-28 in Fayetteville, AR.

Chemistry research students Alison Chang ’18, Sky Cochrane ’18, Deya Pajarillo ’18, Beca Roldan ’19, Carter Embry ’19, Audrey Woody ’20, Emily Sanders ’20, and Erin Dempsey ’20 and physics research students Abel Diaz ’18, Phoebe Sharp ’18, Matthew Huber ’18 and Joshua Moore ’18 presented their research at the conference. Cochrane and Sharp were chosen to give oral presentations.

Sanders won first place in the chemistry posters category for a presentation based on her research into the solvation of potential drugs for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Sharp won first place in the physics oral category for her research on ultrasonic bone assessment. Huber won an honorable mention in the physics poster category for his research on “Enhancing Lesion Targeting In 3-D Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Imaging For Ultrasound-Guided Prostate Biopsy.”

Sanders works in the lab of Prof. Mauricio Cafiero. Sharp and Huber work in the labs of Prof. Brent Hoffmeister and Prof. Ann Viano. Cafiero and Prof. Larryn Peterson also gave one of the three invited talks at the conference and presented their work on “Novel Inhibitors of Enzymes in the Dopamine Pathway.” Cafiero, Peterson and Prof. Will Eckenhoff served as judges in the poster sessions.
