Prof. David McCarthy of the Department of Art will discuss “Is Art Our Last Safe Space?” as part of a panel at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, CA on Oct. 27.
A series of attacks and seemingly random death in places long considered havens—schools, bars, community centers—has forced Americans to grapple with the particular brutality of unpredictable harm. The panel will explore Does art have a role to play in a society where violence is an ever-more present reality? What truth can art show us now? And are we prepared to see it?
McCarthy is author of American Artists Against War, 1935-2010.
