Dr. Timothy Huebner, the Irma O. Sternberg Professor of History at Rhodes, will discuss his book, Liberty and Union: The Civil War Era and American Constitutionalism, at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on Feb. 13 at noon.

The book provides a reexamination of the Civil War era, exploring how the African American understanding of constitutional equality helped transform a war for the Union into a war for emancipation and equal rights.

A book signing will follow Huebner’s talk. For more information, visit here or watch the live stream on Feb. 13.

Also listen to Huebner in a recorded video tell what he loves about the Constitution as part of a new initiative co-hosted by the National Constitution Center and iCivics.
