Dr. Charles Hughes, director of Rhodes’ Memphis Center, is taking part in the 2016 “Elvis Week” celebration at Graceland. An acclaimed historian of Southern music, Hughes is part of the “Elvis 101” panel on Aug. 12, along with fellow Elvis experts Peter Guralnick, John Jackson, and Ernst Jorgenson. Among other topics, Dr. Hughes will discuss his popular class at Rhodes—Elvis Presley and America— which he has taught several times through the Department of History. “It’s always a thrill to talk about Elvis Presley in cultural and historical context, and I’m especially glad that I get to tell Elvis fans from around the world about my work with Rhodes students.”
