Prof. Miriam Clinton of the Department of Art and Art History has been awarded a fellowship from the Harvard University Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) for 2017-2018 to work on her project “The Minoan Modeling Project: 3D Modeling for a New Generation of Archaeological Publication.” She will be in residence at CHS in Spring 2018, and there will be opportunities for students to join her there to work with 3D modeling experts. This project is an extension of her past work with Rhodes students on the House of the Rhyta at Pseira, Crete.
As a part of her research, the online community will be able to explore the reconstructed House of the Rhyta through an educational video game that records how visitors move through the virtual structure. Her focus during her time at CHS will be completing the book-length publication of her study of the architecture of this complicated house. The publication will be a digital and traditional hybrid, in which online 3D models supplement a printed book. The publication is based on her 2014 fieldwork and the 3D reconstruction of the structure that was completed in 2016-2017 in conjunction with Prof. Darren Floyd of the Department of Art and Rhodes College students Kayce Boehm ’19, Kathryn Clark ’20, Ansel MacLaughlin ’16, and Baobao Wang ’18.
