Rhodes College and the Mike Curb Institute for Music hosted Rhodes Jazz Night at The Levitt Shell on Sept. 15 as part of Family Weekend celebrations.
The annual event featured acts like legendary Memphis jazz vocalist Joyce Cobb, the Rhodes Faculty Players, the Rhodes Jazz Band, and the Stax Academy Jazz Ensemble.
“The partnership between the Levitt Shell and Rhodes has become one of our strongest partnerships through the Curb Institute,” says Dr. John Bass, director of the Mike Curb Institute. “The missions of both programs align so closely. Both are creating community and building out Memphis music and raising awareness of Memphis music. This night is the perfect culmination of that.”
The Curb Institute at Rhodes was founded in 2006 through a generous gift from the Mike Curb Family Foundation to foster awareness and understanding of the distinct musical traditions of the South and to study the effect music has had on its culture, history, and economy.
