Qualified Rhodes College students now have a guaranteed interview slot with the Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University (ETSU), thanks to the institutions’ new medical partnership and Guaranteed Interview Agreement (GIA).

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a minimum 3.5 Cumulative GPA and 3.5 Science GPA
  • Have an MCAT score of 505 or higher
  • Be a current Rhodes student or Rhodes graduate within the last two years
  • Submit an application with official transcripts to the American Medical College Application Service no later than Aug. 1
  • Have completed clinical experience that reflects and supports the mission of the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine, including volunteer or paid work in primary care, service to underserved populations, or work in clinical settings focused on rural communities

“We are excited to establish this partnership with Quillen because it creates new opportunities for our students while reinforcing our shared commitment to developing service-minded graduates,” said Melissa Campbell, director of Health Professions Advising at Rhodes. “Quillen’s focus on serving rural and underserved communities aligns closely with many of our students’ experiences, values, and aspirations. By guaranteeing an interview for qualified applicants, this agreement gives students an opportunity to demonstrate the experiences, personal qualities, and commitment to service that are essential to the practice of medicine.”

Rhodes also has a GIA partnership with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center located in Memphis.

Situated in Memphis, a major healthcare hub, Rhodes offers students a competitive advantage when preparing for medical school. This advantage is complemented by guidance provided by the Health Professions Advising office, the college’s strong liberal arts and sciences curriculum, undergraduate research opportunities, and medical partnerships.

“Rhodes is proud of its new partnership with Quillen because it offers students a clear pathway to medical study in the state of Tennessee,” said Dr. Timothy S. Huebner, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “This new opportunity is yet another reason so many students interested in health-related professions are choosing to start their journey at Rhodes.”

In the past five years, more than 330 Rhodes students have been accepted into post-graduate health programs—medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, veterinary, etc.
