Rhodes College President to Serve on Tennessee State Board of Education

Rhodes College President William E. Troutt has been appointed by Gov. Bill Haslam to the nine-member Tennessee State Board of Education. Board members serve a five-year term.

The board is the governing and policy making body for the Tennessee system of public elementary and secondary education. Its work touches all facets of education from accountability and evaluation to curriculum and teacher education.

Troutt has chaired the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education, the Board of the American Council on Education, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program.

“His wealth of experience in Tennessee education will be invaluable to the board,” says Sara Heyburn, executive director of the board, in a Chalkbeat Tennessee article. Read more about Troutt’s appointment in the article.
