Rhodes college computer science majors Karti Bomb ’27, Jack Seigerman ’26, and Juan Perdomo ’27 were members of winning teams at the third City of Memphis Hackathon.
Bomb and Seigerman competed on team Pixelz, which won challenge one for their project—a blight data analytics app. Perdomo was on team Xtra-M, which secured victory in challenge three with a project designed to assist small businesses.
This 36-hour competition took place in November and was organized by the City of Memphis, Innovate Memphis, and a steering committee comprising local tech professionals and entrepreneurship organizations. Participating teams utilized their technical skills and creativity to develop solutions to various challenges facing the City of Memphis.
The objective of the team Pixelz’s project was to create an algorithm featuring map visualizations and historical data analysis (including evictions, police incidents, and deteriorating properties). This tool aims to help city staff and community members prioritize properties for blight mitigation and take proactive measures to prevent further blight.
Team Xtra-M's project aimed to develop a web and mobile application that aggregates schedules and business opportunities, allowing service vendors and organizers to effectively schedule, plan, and staff local events.
