Rhodes College is profiled among the nation’s best colleges for academics, career preparation, and affordability in The Princeton Review’s 2018 edition of Colleges That Pay You Back: The 200 Schools That Give You the Best Bang for Your Tuition Buck.
The Princeton Review, which is a leading tutoring, test prep, and college admission services company, chose the schools based on data it collected in 2016-17 from its surveys of administrators at more than 650 colleges. It also factored in data from its surveys of students attending the schools and surveys of school alumni that PayScale.com conducted through April 2017. The company doesn’t rank the schools in the book overall, 1 to 200, on a single list.
In the profile of Rhodes, The Princeton Review editors praise the school for its diverse disciplines, dedicated faculty, beautiful grounds, and personalized environment. Students noted the advantages of the college’s location in a major city.

Rhodes students surveyed had this to say:
“Memphis is a city with character, and Rhodes is an institution that helps foster it. The city of Memphis offers it all to students, from internships to great restaurants and weekend activities.”
“There is an incredible diversity at Rhodes between upper socioeconomic backgrounds to lower socioeconomic backgrounds, between different races, between different ethnic backgrounds, between political backgrounds, and between genders. There are ‘preppy’ students, ‘hippies,’ ‘punks,’ and ‘nerds.’ The one thing that unites us all is that, on the inside, we’re all just a bunch of geeks who love to learn and want to broaden our horizons.”

Rhodes works with Fortune 500 companies, international employers, small businesses, government agencies, and non-profits to place interns and recruits. About 75 percent of Rhodes students participate in internships before they graduate. There also are opportunities for paid internships and on-campus internships through the Rhodes Students Associate Program.
According to Colleges That Pay You Back editors, “The typical Rhodes College graduate has a starting salary of around $47,900, and 46 percent report that their job has a great deal of meaning.”
