Rhodes College and its Department of Music hosted the 45th Conference of the Southern Chapter of the College Music Society on campus Feb. 22-24. Dr. Courtenay Harter, professor of music at Rhodes, serves as chapter president.
Founded in 1958, the College Music Society is a consortium of college, conservatory, university, and independent musicians and scholars interested in all disciplines of music. The Southern region includes Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico.
“We had poster and paper presentations, performances, lecture-recitals, and new composition concerts. Our participants came from 43 different institutions and 15 different states,” said Harter.
Harter and Rhodes faculty Dr. John Bass and Dr. Jeffrey Jackson also made presentations at the conference.
