Rhodes in Memphis Courses Among Meeman Center Fall 2025 Offerings

The Meeman Center for Lifelong Learning at Rhodes College offers non-credit courses designed for learners of all ages and ranging from single sessions to multiple meetings. As part of the college celebrating its 100th anniversary in Memphis this year, the Meeman Center is presenting various courses taught by Rhodes faculty and staff including:

  • Rhodes in Memphis: Facing the Second Hundred Years (covering the arts, the natural environment, Civil Right activism, local education, community engagement, and more)
  • Memphis’ Historic Elmwood Cemetery
  • Rhodes College Liberal Arts in Prison Program
  • Transforming the Landscape: Environmental Consequences of Native American Removal
  • Memphis Made: Famous Memphians Who Have Made a Difference (including a special visit to the library archives)

  • Living and Learning in America Today (with classes on US Nationalism, the Declaration of Independence, and American education)
  • Explorations in Religious Studies
  • The Lore of Literature (with classes on Dante, Homer, Leo Tolstoy, and Jesmyn Ward)
  • Learning For Our Everyday Lives (with classes on listening to children, discovering your strengths, creating your own LinkedIn page, and learning the science of beer)
  • New Directions in Media Studies (with classes on Netflix’s Stranger Things, 20th-century films, and children’s video games)
