Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and a proponent of nonviolence, spoke on campus recently on “Consciousness, Compassion, And Commitment.” The talk was sponsored by the Rhodes Compassionate Campus Initiative, led by Prof. Mark Muesse of the Department of Religious Studies. More efforts are being planned to continue the conversation in Memphis.
“Dr. Manoj Jain, a local physician who attended the event writes in a commentary published in The Commercial Appeal, “The scientific literature shows that compassion can be lost but it can also be taught.
