On Friday, February 10, Rhodes’ women’s a capella group, Lipstick on Your Collar, will sing the national anthem at the Memphis Grizzlies game. The game, which begins at 7 p.m. at the FedEx Forum, is against the Golden State Warriors.
Avani Alapati ’19, a second-year member of the group, says, “This opportunity is amazing and it is the coolest gig we’ve gotten since I’ve been a member. I can’t wait to do more with the group, because everyone is so talented. We’re just getting closer and closer with every song we learn.”
“It's amazing that the Memphis community is recognizing Rhodes as an institution that can produce such a talented group of people,” adds Alapati. “Lipstick on Your Collar has worked hard to get to where we are, and it is incredible that we get to represent our amazing school at an NBA game.”
The group performs on campus at multiple events each year, and holds its own concerts each semester. Besides rehearsing for their appearance at Friday’s game, the group is also practicing for their Valengram week, a fund-raising event where students can pay to have Valentine-themed songs sung to their loved ones on campus.
In addition to Alapati, members of Lipstick on Your Collar include Rosalia Preiss '17, president, Emily Adams '18, vice president, and Claire Barkley '20, Sarah Barnes '17, Micah Crawford '18, Ashley Dill '17, Mckenzie Dorris '20, Clare Edgar '19, Lauren Hamm '19, Natey Kinzounza '17, Sam Lamy '18, Diana Parsley '19, Alyssa Vaccaro '19, Gillian Wenhold '18.
