The Rhodes Staff Advisory Council (RSAC) is pleased to announce the latest winners of the PAWS for Applause award. PAWS stands for Persons Achieving Work Success, and the award was created to honor outstanding staff at Rhodes. Nominations for the award can be submitted by faculty, staff, and students to recognize dedicated members of the Rhodes community. RSAC will select up to two winners each quarter, who will receive praise, an award, and free meals on their Lynx card.

This quarter, Bobby Parson, physical plant manager, and Karen Mosley, instrument technician and chemical safety officer, were recognized for their work in making campus better for all community members.

Parson’s nominators wrote, “Bobby (and his team) worked tirelessly all summer to make sure we were ready to welcome students back to campus. Making sure furniture is moved in dorm rooms, new mattresses are delivered to rooms, classrooms are set and ready, and setting up for all welcome week events—the work is endless. Bobby always shows up with a smile, willing to do whatever is needed.”

Mosley’s nominators wrote, “She has gone above and beyond what was expected of her. For example, she provided additional safety training for students and helped set up a new laboratory in the Kennedy building. Without her support and dedication, the laboratory courses offered by the chemistry department would not have been able to proceed successfully. Her contributions have been essential to the success and continuation of these courses.

“Karen is the backbone of our department in so many ways, but this summer, she went above and beyond. We were told we had two weeks to clear out a stockroom that has been collecting junk for 100 years! She spearheaded the project, working on it every day and getting others involved. She oversaw the moving and organization of chemicals, glassware, waste, and more. As someone who helped, it was tough work, and Karen maintained her positive and jovial attitude throughout the whole time. As a result of her hard work, we now have a beautiful classroom space, and clean and organized stockroom. This was not really in her job description, but she did it anyway and made a huge difference.”

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding members of our staff! As you think of other individuals to receive this honor, please submit a nomination.
