Thompson Receives Scouting Award for Distinguished Service to Youth

Ferron Thompson of Rhodes’ Department of Business recently was presented the Silver Beaver Award for his work with the West Tennessee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is the highest recognition a local council can bestow upon volunteer leaders.

The Silver Beaver Award was introduced in 1931 and is conferred by BSA’s National Court of Honor after local councils have submitted recommendations of registered Scouters who have made an impact on the lives of youth through distinguished service.

At Rhodes, Thompson teaches accounting and taxation courses. This past spring, he and his students were part of the SaveFirst tax preparation initiative that helped more than 400 low-income working families claim $554,000 in refunds and save $120,000 in commercial tax preparation fees.
