Memphis is one of the best places to go in 2019, according to a new list released by Frommer’s Travel Guides. It’s also one of the best places to go to college.
The city will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2019 with concerts, historical exhibits, and events throughout the year. Memphis in May, a month-long celebration held yearly on the Mississippi Riverfront, typically honors a different country each year of the festival, but will focus centrally on Memphis for the first time ever, and will honor hometown contributions to rock, soul, and blues.
The Frommer’s list notes Memphis’ development throughout the city over the last few years, including the $45 million expansion of Graceland, as well as the construction of Big River Crossing—the country’s longest pedestrian and bike bridge, which was finished in 2016.
Rhodes students are right at home in the heart of Midtown Memphis. Once you’re on campus, you’re less than two miles from some of the most popular entertainment venues in town like Overton Square and Crosstown Concourse, another massive development that was completed over the last two years.
Students on the Rhodes campus are literally steps from 342-acre Overton Park, which contains a nine-hole golf course, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Levitt Shell, Rainbow Lake, Veterans Plaza, the Greensward, two playgrounds, and the 126-acre Old Forest State Natural Area. Did we mention we have pandas? Included in the park is the Memphis Zoo, which has partnered with Rhodes for more than 90 years.
Memphis is a wonderful place to call home for your next four years. In fact, Rhodes students like it so much that more than 35% stay in Memphis after graduation to launch their careers and continue their education.
