One of the books Rhodes incoming students are reading this summer is Jesmyn Ward’s award-winning Salvage the Bones about a struggling Mississippi family in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The novel also is a 2016 Memphis Reads selection, and Ward will be on campus in September for an open Q&A.
Dr. Ernest L. Gibson III of Rhodes’ Department of English discusses the novel’s themes of gender, family, and survival in an interview with Memphis Reads. View it here.
