Prof. Victor Coonin of the Department of Art and Art History is mentioned in an article about Michelangelo’s David in The New York Times Magazine. When describing the creation of the statue, the author of the article writes, “The figure of the David began to emerge little by little, as A. Victor Coonin puts it in his definitive recent history of the statue, From Marble to Flesh, ‘like a person being slowly revealed as water drains from a bath.’”
Coonin, who has been an expert on Michelangelo for more than two decades, is author of From Marble to Flesh: The Biography of Michelangelo’s David (2014).
