On Saturday, Aug. 18, Rhodes College’s first-year students participated in Memphis Community Service Day as part of their Welcome Week experience. Students moved furniture at First Congregational Church and Streets Ministries, stuffed envelopes at Advance Memphis, helped with clean up at Overton Park and New Hope Christian Academy, made craft kits at Girls Inc., and much more.
Our students served at 10 different nonprofits in the Memphis community:
- Young Life
- Elmwood Cemetery
- Crosstown Concourse
- Streets Ministries
- New Hope Christian Academy
- Girls Inc.
- Memphis College of Art
- First Congregational Church
- Refugee Empowerment Program
- Advance Memphis
Community service is one of Rhodes’ core values, and our students have been repeatedly recognized for their efforts. Rhodes was named the No. 1 Most Service-Oriented College in the U.S. by Newsweek two years in a row, ranked No. 2 for service participation in Washington Monthly’s 2015 College Guide, and, most recently, ranked No. 16 by The Princeton Review for Students Most Engaged in Community Service.
