For the first time in its extensive touring history, the Rhodes Singers, along with several alumni and guests, traveled to the Baltic States in May 2026. Directed by Dr. D. Jason Bishop ’98 and collaborative pianist Dr. Alex Benford, the ensemble performed in the capital cities of Tallinn (Estonia), Riga (Latvia), and Vilnius (Lithuania).
The program showcased the rich choral traditions of the Baltics, as well as inspired selections from Norway, Germany, South Korea, and the United States.
In partnership with Music Celebrations International, which offers unique performance and educational opportunities for performing groups, the Rhodes Singers engaged in a variety of cultural, educational, and sightseeing activities during their tour.
“Although the Rhodes Singers has a long and rich history of touring both domestically and internationally, it’s rare that everyone on a tour is visiting those countries for the very first time,” said Bishop. “Our week in the Baltic States was filled with friendship and community, cultural enrichment, musical and intellectual curiosity, and deeply appreciative audiences. Memories were made that will last a lifetime.”
Before the tour, the Rhodes Singers showcased their talents with spring performances on the Rhodes College campus, including a collaborative concert with the Harvard Glee Club. The semester also included a tribute to retiring professor Dr. Tom Bryant, highlighting the enduring impact of mentorship and music at Rhodes.
