Sam Supan ’25 won the undergraduate category and Shannen Alack ’27 was runner-up at the annual Memphis Area Collegiate Geospatial Showcase, held this year on the Rhodes College campus April 25. They each will receive a scholarship award toward their education and/or research.
The showcase offered an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to demonstrate their geographic information science (GIS) proficiency to an audience of GIS professionals spanning the public, private, and governmental business sectors.
Supan, who is an environmental sciences major, presented “Mapping Toxic Release Sites in Southwest Memphis: An Accessible Approach,” and Alack, who is an urban studies major, presented “Evaluating the Relationship Between Urban Heat and Median Household Income with Remote Sensing and GIS.” Other Rhodes College finalists who presented at the showcase were Alice Hale ’26, Lorenzo Martinez ’26, and Dylan Morris ’25.
