Urban Forestry Fellows Helen Hope ’18, Ethan Williford ’17, and Mac Wilson ’17 recently won first place for their research poster showing early results of their studies regarding the regeneration dynamics and species composition of the Old Forest located across campus.
Their poster competed against other student urban forestry research from University of Tennessee, Mississippi State University, Texas A&M, and the University of Florida at the International Society of Arboriculture - Southern Chapter Conference held in South Carolina on Feb. 28.
The fellows have been conducting research under the guidance of Dr. Kimberly Kasper, assistant professor of anthropology at Rhodes, and Eric Bridges, director of operations at the Overton Park Conservancy. This type of research will help the conservancy develop management strategies to ensure the long-term health of the forest.
