We have been asked about Rhodes' admission policy regarding applicants who choose to participate in peaceful protests in the aftermath of the recent Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida. At Rhodes, our goal is to inspire our students to become powerful, thoughtful, and productive members of society who take civic responsibility seriously. Peaceful protest, in the college's view, is an extension of that.

I entered Rhodes intending to pursue history or English, and soon found the angle of visual culture was a better fit. My particular interest is medieval art. In McCarthy and Coonin courses, I was able to develop oral, writing and careful looking skills. I was on the Western Track of European Studies in 2013, and during that study abroad trip I had a network that helped me eventually decide to pursue an M.A. at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Now, I'm about to begin a highly-competitive PhD program at the University of Pennsylvania—all because of the Rhodes art department!

The college has released a new economic impact study revealing it contributes $316.6 million to the local economy every year. The analysis also found Rhodes graduates are among the highest paid in Tennessee. 

Rhodes is ranked No. 22 among small schools on the Peace Corps ’ 2018 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list. Ten alumni currently are volunteers.

“Our college’s demanding liberal arts curriculum has served our candidates well,” says Dr. Scott Newstok, co-director of post-graduate fellowships at Rhodes. “The Fulbright Program is increasingly competitive, which makes it all the more impressive that Rhodes students consistently earn these awards. 

The essay provides history about the early life of Abe Fortas, a Rhodes alumnus who served as U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice from 1965 to 1969.

Rhodes Theatre Guild's performance of pool (no water) is the first of four productions planned for McCoy Theatre's spring season.

Twenty high schools from Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Alabama will send about 300 delegates to debate and solve world issues in a simulation of the UN General Assembly and the United Nations Security Council Feb. 16-18.
