Camp Codette: Hacking the Gender Gap in Computer Science
This summer, Rhodes College hosted its second annual computer-coding camp for girls aged 11 to 18. Called Camp Codette, the program is the brainchild of students Thomas Threlkeld ’15 and Haley Adams ’15, and Dr. Betsy Sanders, associate professor of mathematics and computer science.
Senior Seminar Results in Neuroscience Research Grant for Sumner Magruder ’16
Sumner Magruder ’16, a neuroscience/biomathematics/computer science bridge major, received a grant from the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) travel award program to conduct research at the University of Gottingen, Germany. BIF is an independent, non-profit organization that supports up-and-coming junior scientists and promotes basic research in biomedicine.
Distinguished Awards for Scholarship and Service Presented at Rhodes Commencement
Annual awards were presented at the 167th Commencement Exercises of Rhodes College on May 14 on campus. Rhodes graduate Heting Hommy Zhu was awarded the Peyton Nalle Rhodes Phi Beta Kappa Prize, the college’s highest academic honor, and James Allen Boone, Jr. ’71, vice president for finance and business affairs, received the Rhodes College Distinguished Service Medal.
