Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is America’s oldest collegiate honor society. Its campus chapters invite for induction the most outstanding liberal arts students at America’s leading colleges and universities. Fewer than one percent of U.S. college graduates are eligible. Membership is one of the highest academic honors a student can attain, and it stands as a life-long mark of excellence in the study of the liberal arts.

Dr. Brooke Schedneck, an assistant professor at Rhodes whose work focuses on contemporary Buddhism in Thailand, has a new book out titled Living Theravada: Demystifying the People, Places, And Practices of a Buddhist Tradition.

Faculty and students of the Department of Chemistry represented Rhodes at the Spring 2023 American Chemical Society meeting in Indianapolis, IN, where thousands of chemistry professionals met to share ideas and advance scientific and technical knowledge

These words aptly describe the top 48 out of 700 mock trial teams in the nation that were in Memphis April 14-16 for the 38th American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) National Championship. The event was hosted by Rhodes College and sponsored by Burch, Porter & Johnson and The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

Dr. Rashna Richards, dean for faculty development, reviews, and assessment at Rhodes, has been admitted into the 2023-2024 Senior Leadership Academy of the Council of Independent Colleges and the American Academic Leadership Institute.Up to 40 participants are selected for the competitive year-long program, which is designed for administrators to acquire knowledge, skills, and experience germane to the responsibilities and activities central to the work of a vice president or cabinet officer.

Rhodes College junior Abigail Hultquist and sophomore Ryan McCrory are among the 413 students from across the United States who have been selected as Goldwater Scholars in the 2023 competition. Established by Congress in 1986 to honor Barry M. Goldwater, the Goldwater Foundation provides scholarships to support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming the nation’s next generation of natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering research leaders.
