Rhodes College has had a long and storied history since its founding more than 175 years ago. Twenty years ago, the college started an exciting new chapter with the grand opening of the Paul Barret, Jr. Library on Aug. 23, 2005. At a cost of $42 million, the library remains the largest construction project in the college's history. Its award-winning design is a phenomenal expression of the campus’ signature Collegiate Gothic style, filled with functional and inspiring spaces connecting academic and student life.
Rhodes College Athletics Wins SAA Commissioner’s Cup
Rhodes College Athletics has won the 2019 Southern Athletic Association’s (SAA) Commissioner’s Cup for the second year in a row. It recognizes regular season standings across each institution’s top eight sports per gender.

Kappa Pi, the international art honor society has established a chapter on the Rhodes campus. Founded in 1911, it is open to all college students studying visual art who have achieved certain standards of excellence in the field.

Tanner Martinez ’19 Receives Highly Competitive Medical Scientist Training Program Award
He is a biochemistry and molecular biology major and will enter the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine this summer. The award provides individuals opportunities to pursue a combined MD-PhD degree in order to care for patients and to conduct research. MSTPs are funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, which is part of the National Institutes of Health.

Rhodes College President Marjorie Hass has appointed Dr. Darrell Ray interim vice president for student life, effective July 1, 2019. Ray is an experienced student life professional who previously served as vice president for student affairs at the University of Memphis.

From classical to R&B to hip-hop, André Moore, more commonly known as Dré on campus, is a walking symphony of melodies. Recording Artist and Minister Kirk Whalum to Deliver Baccalaureate Address, Architect Jane Cady Rathbone to Receive Honorary Degree
The Baccalaureate Service of the 170th Session of Rhodes College will be held on campus May 10, followed by Commencement on May 11. Rev. Kirk Whalum, an award-winning recording artist and an ordained minister, will deliver the Baccalaureate address. Jane Cady Rathbone, a principal of the Hanbury architectural and design firm, will receive the Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at Commencement.

Lynx Win Five Championships
Over the course of April 25-28, 2019, Rhodes College athletics participated in 10 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournaments/championships. The Lynx won five team championships—women’s golf, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s track and field, women’s track and field. There also were six individual champions and two relay champions in track and field.

Rhodes Honors Professors Amy Risley and Michael LaRosa With Clarence Day Awards for Outstanding Teaching and Research
They were recognized at the college’s annual Awards Convocation, held on campus April 26. Prof. Risley of the Department of International Studies, received the Clarence Day Award for Outstanding Teaching. Prof. LaRosa of the Department of History, received the Clarence Day Award for Outstanding Research and/or Creative Activity.
