Claire Shapiro is president of the board of directors for Memphis Business Group on Health (MBGH) and accepted a national award on the organization’s behalf.

Like a beautiful blend of colors, Dr. Shira Malkin has fused elements of scholarly research with something intensely personal—her father’s artwork.  

This semester, Joel Parsons and Dr. Elizabeth Pettinaroli, along with the Memphis Cartonera fellows, have joined forces to produce “Memphis Cartonera: Cooperative Publishing, Art, and Action.”

Rhodes is a Level 4 arboretum, and many Urban Forestry Fellows are researching Overton Park’s old growth forest and planning events to engage the community in environmental stewardship. 

Rhodes senior Nick Parinella says tubing, or “floating the river,” is a popular pastime in his hometown of Austin, TX, but trying to keep up with keys or credit cards when on the water is always a big inconvenience. That fact became his inspiration for the Kangaroozie™, a can cooler (koozie) with a waterproof compartment to store valuables.

On Friday, February 10, Rhodes’ women’s a capella group, Lipstick on Your Collar, will sing the national anthem at the Memphis Grizzlies game.

Church Health interns and Rhodes seniors Rahul Peravali and Tyler Harvey gain experience with programs ranging from clinical services to wellness and nutrition education. 

Dr. Tom Merrill, professor of music at Xavier University and a 1982 Rhodes alumnus, has been elected to the office of National Treasurer by the American Choral Directors Association.

Dr. Timothy Huebner, the Irma O. Sternberg Professor of History at Rhodes, will discuss his book at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on Feb. 13 at noon.
