On June 18, Rhodes held a day-long retreat on campus for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. The event was sponsored by the Compassionate Campus Initiative (CCI), which is led by Prof. Mark Muesse of the Department of Religious Studies and composed of faculty, staff, and students who have been charged by President William E. Troutt to seek out and execute ways to make Rhodes a kinder and more mindful community.

Twenty-five talented high school students from all over the country staged final mock trials on campus June 25 after participating in Rhodes College’s first Mock Trial Academy.

Rhodes graduates who apply to medical school are accepted at a much higher rate than the national average.

Annika Gage ’16 of Ann Arbor, MI, recently learned she is a 2016-2017 recipient of the William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India.
 

Dr. Herbert Hill ’67, who was a chemistry major at Rhodes,  has spent more than four decades pioneering ways to detect chemical signatures based on the movement of a substance’s component ions.

Prof. Michael Nelson of the Department of Political Science writes on various subjects including the American Presidency, English composition, sports, music, history, and sociology. His latest article in The Weekly Standard focuses on the spread of legalized casino gambling. Read it here. 

Charles Walker graduated from Rhodes in 2014 and is working as a registered nurse at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Shaolu Yu has published an article in the June 2016 issue of Journal of Transport Geography on the mobility and immobility of Chinese (im)migrants in Flushing, Queens, New York City.

Dr. Shadrack W. Nasong’o, of Rhodes’ Department of International Studies, is editor of the new book Contentious Politics in Africa: Identity, Conflict, and Social Change.
