Two Rhodes Students Participate in Harvard Conference Fostering Future Public Policy Leaders
Isabel Lopez ’23 and Becca Folkes-Lallo ’22 are among a few select students nationwide who participated in Harvard University’s 20th annual Public Policy Leadership Conference this Feb 6-9. Presented by the university’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, the conference is designed to inspire talented and driven first- and second-year undergraduate students to pursue public policy careers and become future leaders.

Rhodes College Is a Top Ten Producer of Students Awarded Prestigious Fulbright Grant
Rhodes has earned the number seven spot on the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ list of baccalaureate institutions producing the most 2019-2020 Fulbright U.S. Students. The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s highly prestigious international educational exchange program, and participants are chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential.

Rhodes College Provost Milton Moreland Named Centre College President
He first joined the Rhodes campus community in 2003 as an assistant professor of religious studies and was promoted to associate and full professor, serving as the R.A. Webb Professor of Religious Studies. Moreland previously announced he was leaving his role as provost at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Rhodes conducted a national search for a new provost in the fall and announced the appointment of Dr. Katherine Bassard in December.

Seniors Phyu Khine and Sara Taylor Nominated for James C. Gaither Junior Fellowships
Both Rhodes students are majoring in international studies. James C. Gaither Junior Fellows work in Washington, DC, as research assistants to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s senior scholars on projects including foreign policy and diplomacy, technology and international affairs, and geoeconomics and strategy.

Prof. Chanelle Benz Nominated for 2020 PEN/Hemingway Award for Debut Novel
Assistant Professor of English Chanelle Benz’s novel, The Gone Dead, has been nominated for the PEN/Hemingway Award for Debut Novel with a prize of $25,000. Finalists will be announced in January 2020. At Rhodes, she teaches fiction writing and topics in women and literature.

Rhodes’ Postgraduate Scholarship Committee is endorsing four juniors to compete for the 2020 Truman Scholarship, the premier graduate fellowship in the United States for those pursuing careers as public service leaders. They are Olivia Brown, Teasha Dogra, Jacob Fontaine, and Matthew Mussalli.
