Registration is underway for the Spring 2026 session of the Meeman Center for Lifelong Learning at Rhodes College. The center offers non-credit courses designed for adult learners, with options ranging from single sessions to multiple meetings. Engaging courses are expertly guided by Rhodes professors and cover a variety of topics from history and literature to current events.

Stoddard Receives a Fifth National Honor: Tyrone Mitchell Mentor-on-the-Map Award
Dr. Shana Stoddard, associate professor of chemistry at Rhodes, was presented the Tyrone Mitchell Mentor-on-the-Map Award at the 50th annual meeting of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers held Sept. 11-14 in New Orleans. This is Stoddard’s fifth award from a national organization since joining Rhodes in 2017.

Patricia Spears Jones ’73 Named New York State Poet
Rhodes alumna Patricia Spears Jones ’73 has been named New York State Poet by the New York State Writers Institute. The award-winning and critically acclaimed poet will serve for two years in the honorary position and receive a $10,000 honorarium.

Seaton Awarded Inaugural Research Grant from American Mathematical Society
Dr. Christopher Seaton, professor of mathematics at Rhodes College, is among 46 mathematical scientists from across the country who have been named inaugural recipients of the AMS-Simons Research Enhancement Grants for Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI) Faculty. Awardees will receive $3,000 a year for three years to support research-related activities.

Rhodes Alum Johnathan Payne Selected for Artist Residency at New York’s Museum of Arts and Design
Rhodes College alum Johnathan Payne ’12 is one of three artists recently selected for the Artist Studios Program at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. He will be an artist-in-residence at the museum through February 2024, where he will engage the public and work in an on-site studio space.
